Permitting
refers to the act of having your project reviewed by the city building department to check for building code and zoning compliance. Building code is a set of laws to ensure the public's health and safety. Zoning tells how the property can be used. The permitting process can be "over-the-counter" meaning the project can be checked in the same day. If the project has to be "submitted for approval" it can take a few weeks. To have your project reviewed, you must have (3) sets of plans and the proper forms filled out located on the city building department website.
